Those who consider Lula's administration as bad or terrible increased marginally to 27.9% from 27.2 four months ago, it showed. The rating of the leftist president's performance edged up to 55.2% from 54.9% in September, while disapproval also rose slightly to 39.6 from 39.0%, the MDA poll commissioned by the transport sector lobby CNT. Lula gets his best approval ratings among lower-income Brazilians and in poorer northeastern Brazil, his political bastion. He does badly among higher income groups and evangelical Christian voters, MDA said. MDA polled 2,002 people in person between Jan. 18-21 and the poll has a margin of error of 2.2 percentage points.

Rocket Lab shares have the potential to take off, according to Bank of America. Analyst Ronald Epstein reiterated his buy rating on the space stock while shaving his price target down by $2 to $10. Epstein's new price target implies the stock could soar 134.2% from Monday's close. After investigating the September mid-flight failure of its Electron rocket, Rocket Lab is aiming to get its launch business back on track by the end of the year. The analyst's price target cut followed a reassessment of the discount rate following the Electron launch snafu.

Oct 25 (Reuters) - Canada's MDA Ltd (MDA.TO) said on Wednesday it had selected Elon Musk's SpaceX to be the launch service provider for CHORUS, the space technology firm's next-generation satellite constellation for Earth observation. MDA's satellite constellation, or a group of artificial satellites working together as a system, is set to be launched on SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket in the fourth quarter of 2025 from Florida. "The production of CHORUS is well underway and we are looking forward to once again working with SpaceX to launch our next generation Earth observation capability," said Mike Greenley, CEO of MDA. MDA was SpaceX's first private customer for a commercial mission using the Falcon 9 rocket about a decade ago, in which the spacecraft carried Canadian commercial and scientific satellites. Oct 18 (Reuters) - Canada on Wednesday said it will invest C$1.01 billion ($740.90 million) over the next 15 years in satellite technology to boost the earth observation data that it uses to track wildfires and other environmental crises. The new initiative called Radarsat+ will gather information about Earth's oceans, land, climate, and populated areas, a statement by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) said. Data collected from earth observation technologies allows scientists to see how the planet changes and make decisions to deal with emergencies like wildfires or longer-term issues like climate change. Canada has previously launched three satellite missions under the Radarsat program - Radarsat-1, Radarsat-2 and the Radarsat Constellation Mission (RCM). The investment will also help develop a replacement for RCM, CSA said.

LEO satellites operate 36 times closer to Earth than traditional ones so they take less time to send and receive information, leading to better and faster broadband service even in remote areas. "It is another big step forward on our path to get Lightspeed up there," Telesat CEO Dan Goldberg told Reuters. Telesat picked Elon Musk's SpaceX because it had "the best combination of price, performance, reliability and schedule tempo," Goldberg said. Satellite constellations have sapped large amounts of the U.S. launch supply in recent years with considerably large bulk launch orders like Telesat's SpaceX contract. SpaceX aims to nearly double its annual launch rate in 2023 thanks to its growing Starlink constellation.

PARIS – Competitors or not, SpaceX continues to be willing to launch for other satellite internet companies. The agreement covers 14 launches of the Canadian venture's Lightspeed internet satellites. SpaceX has used its rockets to launch communications satellites for companies that compete directly or indirectly with its global Starlink internet network. These deals come as an Amazon shareholder alleges the company snubbed SpaceX for launch contracts of the tech giant's Kuiper internet satellites. Earlier this summer Telesat announced a swap in the manufacturer of its Lightspeed satellites, with Canadian space company MDA taking the place of French-Italian manufacturer Thales Alenia Space.

CNN —Two Israeli civilians were shot and killed on Saturday in the flashpoint West Bank town of Huwara, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). IDF soldiers have been pursuing the suspects and have set up blockades in the area, the military said in a statement. Huwara, south of Nablus in the occupied West Bank, was the scene of the fatal shooting of two Israeli settler brothers in February, following that night by revenge attacks by settlers on the Palestinian town. Hamas, the Palestinian militant movement that runs Gaza and is increasingly popular in the West Bank, praised the attack without directly claiming responsibility for it. “The security forces are working diligently to find the murderer and come to terms with him, just as we have done with all the murderers so far.”

Shares of Canadian telecommunications satellite operator Telesat surged on Friday after the company announced it would swap suppliers for its planned Lightspeed global internet network. Canadian space company MDA will now build the Lightspeed satellites, taking the place of French-Italian manufacturer Thales Alenia Space and resulting in "total capital cost savings" of about $2 billion, Telesat announced. The company expects to begin launching the first Lightspeed satellites in mid-2026, with global service beginning once the first 156 satellites are in orbit. Telesat stock surged as much as much as 64% with heavy volume in early trading from its previous close at $8.45 a share, before slipping slightly to closer to 50%. "I'm incredibly proud of the Telesat team for their innovative work to further optimize ... resulting in dramatically reduced costs," Telesat CEO Dan Goldberg said in a release.

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/IllustrationAug 11 (Reuters) - Satellite operator Telesat (TSAT.TO), has given space tech firm MDA (MDA.TO) a C$2.1 billion ($1.56 billion) contract to build 198 satellites for its low-earth orbit program. Telesat said it had earmarked $3.5 billion as capital expenditure for the Lightspeed project and that the MDA deal had helped it save $2 billion. The technology would also allow each satellite to be slightly smaller than the ones Telesat was previously considering. Telesat's Lightspeed network is designed to serve the connectivity requirements of enterprise and government users, with highly secure, resilient, low-latency broadband connectivity anywhere in the world. The company launched its first LEO 3 demonstration satellite aboard Rocket Lab's Electron rocket in July.

Jerusalem CNN —An Israeli man was seriously wounded and two girls were hurt in a shooting in the West Bank, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israeli emergency services said Sunday. The shooting took place in the Israeli-occupied southern West Bank, which is normally calmer than the north. Palestinian sources said Israeli troops were searching every car as they looked for the suspects, creating a traffic jam lasting at least two hours on a day when Israel and the West Bank are suffering a heatwave. Most of the recent violence in the West Bank has taken place in the region’s north, especially in Jenin and Nablus. Both those cities have seen Israel carry out deadly anti-terror raids and Palestinian militants attacking civilians, sometimes in response to the IDF operations.

CNN —Two men have been wounded in what Israeli police say was a suspected “terror attack” that took place near the Shimon Hatzadik tomb in East Jerusalem early Tuesday local time. The Shimon Hatzadik tomb is a revered holy site in Judaism located in the largely Palestinian neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem. In a follow-up statement, police said forces located a “Carlo” style submachine gun near the site of the shooting. A survey by pollster MDA showed Lula's edge slipping to just 2 percentage points, equal to the margin of error for the poll commissioned by transport sector lobby CNT. But Bolsonaro outperformed opinion polls in the first-round vote on Oct. 2, and many analysts say the election could go either way. The final opinion surveys by pollsters IPEC and AtlasIntel, however, showed Lula holding a stable and slightly larger lead. AtlasIntel, among the most accurate pollsters in the first round, showed Lula's lead holding at 7 percentage points. Lula vowed to revive those boom times, while Bolsonaro suggested current social programs are more effective.
